Field Soil Suction Profiles for Expansive Soil

چکیده

Soil suction–based analyses are paramount to proper design of foundations in expansive soils, yet availability field soil suction profiles from direct measurement is limited. A method was developed, using directly measured obtained sites across the US, by which routine geotechnical tests can be used estimate expand database for estimation profiles. Herein, expanded develop best-estimate clay envelopes boundary conditions associated with covered or uncovered ground surface subjected natural climatic flux. Where appropriate site conditions, proposed profile any suction-based heave/shrinkage analysis. Key features envelopes, consistent current popular approaches, include climate-dependent estimates equilibrium at depth, depth (stable) suction, and variation surface. Comparisons existing envelope recommendations made. Finally, a limited number cases developed/irrigated presented comparison flux conditions.

Expansive Soil Crack Depth under Cumulative Damage

The crack developing depth is a key problem to slope stability of the expansive soil and its project governance and the crack appears under the roles of dry-wet cycle and gradually develops. It is believed from the analysis that, because of its own cohesion, the expansive soil will have a certain amount of deformation under pulling stress but without cracks. The soil body will crack only when t...

A Fractal Interpolation Model for Classification of Expansive Soil

The classification of the grade of shrink and expansion for the expansive soils is very important work for constructions in expansive soil area. Accurate evaluation of the estate of expansive soil may provide scientific data and basis for the prevention of engineering design and construction. This paper brings forward the classification method for expansive soil based on fractal interpolation t...

Influence of Soil-industrial Effluents Interaction on Subgrade Strength of an Expansive Soil-a Comparative Study

The rapid growth in population and industrialization cause generation of large quantities of effluents. The bulk effluents generated from industrial activities are discharged either treated or untreated over the soil leading to changes in soil properties causing improvement or degradation of engineering behaviour of soil. If there is an improvement in engineering behaviour of soil, there is a v...

Mathematical Model to Predict Swelling of Expansive Soil

ABSTRACT: In this paper, a simple mathematical model is proposed to predict the swelling behavior of an expansive soil from Saudi Arabia. The model consists of one equation with many parameters. The main advantage of this model is that only one parameter is needed to run the model. While the other model parameters can be determined using the best fitting curve technique. The testing program inc...
